Live performance per request

Per a previous request by a kind patron, I'm putting up some videos of a performance at the ILP Fest 2009 on March 8th of this year.

and

and

The last one is almost silly and confusing, but I thought after so many years of yakking and just putting up sound files, I should put up some videos as well. Hope you like.

Thanks,

Melodiens in concert on May 30th @ 8 pm at the Golden Peacock Restaurant in Fremont

Every now and then an opportunity comes along where you are just stunned at the sheer grace that is bestowed upon you. Being in the company of stellar talent humbles me, and I think brings out the best in me. I'm about to be involved in such a concert that's coming up on May 30th @ 8 pm in Fremont's Golden Peacock Restaurant. Please see the details in the included flier and try to make it out there!

Tumhare Anjuman Se Uthke Deewane Kahaan Jaate - A Milestone

A recording done on a whim. I'm in love with Chitra Singh's voice right now and just cannot get enough of her. Singing her songs is like tapping into a different part of my nature; no one can take my goddess' place, but Chitra Singh is unlike any other. Guess what, I have yet another cold right now - seems like nasal voices are perfectly suited to these type of renditions. There is no music, merely me and an assist from reverb. Pardon any mistakes please. Thank you.

The poetry is as follows:

Tumhare anjuman se uthke diwane kahaan jaate
Jo waabasta huye humse woh afsane kahaan jaate......

Tumhari berukhi ne laaj rakh li baadakhane ki
Tum aankhon se pila dete to paimane kahaan jaate
Jo waabasta huye humse woh afsane kahaan jaate......

Chalo achchha hua kaam aa gayi diwaangi apni
Wagar na hum zamaane bhar ko samjhaane kahaan jaate
Jo waabasta huye humse woh afsane kahaan jaate......

I have two more songs I will be recording soon. One is an English song by one of my favorite artists and another is a Lata Mangeshkar favorite. Stay tuned.

Aap Ko Bhool Jaaye Hum - Echoes

Heartbreak leads to such potent poetry....I love this ghazal so much. The words are pure tragic romance. I cannot resist; I must post the words for your eyes:

Aap ko bhool jaayen hum itne to bewafaa nahin
Aap se kya gila kare aap se koi gila nahin

Sheesha-e-dil ko todna unka to ek khel hain
Humse hi bhool ho gayee unko koi khata nahin

Kaash wo apne gham mujhe dede to kuch sukoon mile
Woh kitna bad-naseeb hain gham hee jise mila nahin

Jurm hain gar wafa to kya, kyoon kar wafa ko chhod doon
Kehte hain is gunaah ki hoti koi saza nahin

This is one of my favorite ghazals by Chitra Singh. Her voice has minute shards of heartbreak woven through it, making your own eyes glisten with unsuppressed feeling. This was recorded at the same time as that last ghazal and yes I was deathly ill here as well. I promise I will put up stuff that's not tainted with a cold for once. This is my broken voice and Abhijit's melody....We were both feeling around the melody; me trying to guide my broken voice and Abhijit trying to follow the chords. I have to do my own crisp recording soon, one with a good song that is contemporary for once....

Upcoming Concert on March 8th: India Literacy Project presents ILP Fest 2009

Hello friends,

I'm very happy to share this event with you; it's a show my band Jigary is doing for the India Literacy Project on March 8th. We are super happy to be able to help out with such a worthy cause, but we cannot do this without your help. Jigary's prime passions are it's friendships, it's music and it's charitable causes. In doing this show we are able to enjoy all three.

I realize you guys come out to support me for several concerts and I appreciate that. I'm urging you to come out for this show as well; it's a labor of love for our band. We have toiled for months on this material and have worked on minute details of each and every song. Please come out and support this wonderful cause and enjoy the show. You won't be able to resist tapping your feet. We promise not to disappoint.

Tickets are available at the following link: PLEASE BUY TICKETS HERE!

Best wishes,
Kaumudee

Aisa Lagta Hain - Echoes

Recently I did a very intimate concert at a friend's house. My generous friends hosted a bunch of strangers at their house, first during practices and then for the actual concert itself. As the weeks went on, we became close friends and now this musical journey seeks to be continued on. The theme was the songs of Sachin Dev Burman and I sang some pretty gems like Gaata Rahe Mera Dil, Tum Na Jaane Kis Jahaan Mein, Shokhiyon Mein Ghola Jaaye, Najar Laagi Raja, Deewana Mastana Hua Dil and Raat Akeli Hain. I will try to put up some version of this show on this blog. Here is the intro from the show:

Introduction to the SD Burman show

My musical compadres and I thoroughly enjoyed not only the practice sessions but also the actual concert, performed for a houseful of music lovers. The event was by invite only and only open to a small group since the concert was being held at home yet the creative yield for me and the rest of the performers was tremendous. Naturally, my voice gave out by me getting sick one week before the show (thanks Murali) and I had to somehow manage singing through the pain. The rest of the artists were so kind and caring of me, that they all decided to also get sick ;) The result was a fabulous show with a few moments of voices giving out. Mostly mine.

Well a few days after, it was still not in good shape. Yet at the request of some elders, I sang some ghazals in a home setting. A recording was made and I am actually shocked that it came out decently. This particular song is by Chitra Singh and is one of my most favorite ghazals. I have lost sur here and there, and I am aware of that. My voice dried out and I could just not get some notes out as well. I was so sick that I couldn't even sing a note till the day of the show, but somehow things managed to happen. Normally I don't put up such recordings, but I just thought it was not too shabby considering the state of my voice. Abhijit is a genius on the keyboards and I'm on vocals. That's it. The link to the recorded song is below in the player; tell me what you think.

RD Burman show in Sunnyvale, California on August 23rd, 2008

Come one, come all....

I am finally getting to do the songs of Pancham Da, a music director that has been close to my heart since I was a teenage girl. I am doing some wonderful Asha and Lata numbers which fill my heart with joy and I would love for you to come join me and share in this musical evening with all of us. From the fast-paced songs of Teesri Manzil to the gentle melodies of Aandhi, to the laughs of Padosan and the tears of Amar Prem, this show covers some of the best work Pancham Da ever created. I am honored to be able to work on some wonderful songs that my goddess (Asha Tai) has sung like the flow of a crisp brook of melodious notes...Needless to say, I am charmed with the content of the show as well as the chance to sing my idol's best work. I hope I do it justice.

Please join us and prepare to hear some of the most amazing musicians put their talents together to weave the musical history of Pancham Da's finest creations. Details about the show are on the accompanying flyer. I have my own quota of tickets to sell so please contact me via blog comments for details and tickets. Thank you for visiting my website.

With a warm and tender welcome,
